The 2019 Philippine Festival is an opportunity for the Filipino community to showcase its culture through a unique and fun-filled festival of food, music, cultural performances, and games.

There will be a line-up of live music and entertainment featuring the best local artists performing throughout the day, including Mary Van der horst, Zabrina Araya, Bryan Yap, Escalera band, and Mike Valdivia.

Attendees will also be able to enjoy Filipino food and join in the halo-halo and barbecue eating competition.

“The highlight of the festival is the Ati-Atihan street performance, with people parading in their face masks and colourful costumes,” says Noel Tolentino, one of the organisers of the festival.

“The event is an opportunity for us, Filipinos, to showcase our culture. It’s also our way of showing our thanks and appreciation to all the opportunities that the state of Victoria has offered us.”

The theme “Celebrating Living in Victoria” is in keeping with what Queen Victoria Market (QVM) means to all Victorians—a meeting hub for all people of diverse cultural backgrounds.

QVM represents the heart and soul of the City of Melbourne for it equates to people and food. It welcomes people of different languages, religions, professions, talents, interests, age and ability.

The Philippine Festival 2019 coincides with the celebration of Cultural Diversity Week.

SBS Radio will also be joining in the festivities with a photobooth setup. Prizes and freebies await attendees who will be visiting the stall.
