Set against the backdrop of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s controversial war on drugs, ‘Alpha, the Right to Kill,’ tells the story of a police officer and his informant who had been involved in a police operation to arrest a big-time drug lord in Manila.
The film’s director, Brillante Mendoza captures the drug-related violence and extrajudicial executions that have ravaged his country since 2016. Mendoza's stylishly executed thriller provides a memorable picture of a city in the grip of overwhelming fear.

The film won the Special Jury Prize at San Sebastian International Film Festival 2018.

Screening dates:

Saturday 8 June, 4:30 pm at Event Cinemas George St 5

Monday 10 June, 4:45 pm at Dendy Opera Quays Cinema 1

The Sydney Film Festival will run from 5–16 June 2019.
