On May 25, the Australian Embassy is bringing a taste of Australian culture to Cebuanos with fun activities for family and friends including an interactive exhibit, information sessions, fashion parade, and free outdoor concert and film screening.
“Each year we take the Philippines-Australia Friendship Day celebration to a different city, and this year we are heading to Cebu,” said Australian Ambassador Steven J. Robinson AO.
Interactive Exhibit and Information Session at the Activity Center
Visitors will see Australia’s popular cities and landmarks recreated at Ayala Centre’s Activity Centre, including Melbourne’s Hosier Lane. There will be retail and travel fair with heaps of Australian goodies and travel deals on offer.
Embassy officers will hold a free information session on how to study and travel to Australia. Representatives from Australia’s education institutions will also be present to answer queries about studying in Australia.
Fashion Parade at The Gallery
The highlight of the celebration will feature Cebu’s young and stylish walking the runway and champion athletes from the Philippine Accessible Disability Services Inc (PADS) for the community fashion parade.
Free Outdoor Concert and Film Screening at the Terraces Garden
A free concert featuring home-grown talent Sepia Times will also be performing at the Terraces Garden, followed by a film screening of Australian short and feature films.
The moonlight film screening will feature the award-winning Australian family movie Paper Planes, alongside a selection of short films featured at Flickerfest, Australia’s world-renowned short film festival.
Two roundtrip tickets to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney via Qantas will also be given away to lucky shoppers at Ayala Center Cebu.
This year’s Philippines Australia Friendship Day is part of the larger Australia Now celebration across ASEAN. With a focus on engaging the youth, Australia is hosting food, film and forum events across the ten countries of the region to celebrate Australia’s creative excellence, diversity, and innovation.
