How to complete your Census

The next census is on Tuesday, 10 August 2021 and every person in Australia must participate. Completing the Census is important so the governments, businesses and community groups will be able to make informed decisions about services for Australians.

This year, you can start completing your Census as soon as you get instructions via mail which will be delivered to households in early August.

You will need to enter the enter the Census number and the temporary password included in the letter sent to your household. 

There will be different ways to complete the form, either online or by paper. And for those who need it, there will be people in the community to help make sure you're counted. 

If you would prefer a paper form, you may call the automated paper form request service on 1800 130 250.

The Census form has 60 questions about key demographics, such as:

  • age
  • religion
  • birthplace
  • work/occupation
  • household composition
  • language
  • culture
  • education
