"Araw ng Kasarinlan," or the Philippine Independence Day, has been commemorated annually on June 12. This significant day marks the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain, a historic event that took place in 1898.
Even far from their homeland, Filipinos around the world continue to celebrate this occasion, including those in the Filipino community in Australia.
