Located 46 kilometers west of Sydney CBD, Plumpton is in the local government area of the City of Blacktown and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. It is north of Mount Druitt

Although an old suburb, the three-square kilometer suburb has faced new developments in recent years, and considered a young suburb as couples with dependent children make up two-thirds of the population. Based on 2011 census, 25% were children under the age of 15, which is significantly higher than the national average, while elderly people were 6% of the population. The median age is 30 years, seven years younger than the national median age.Image

Plumpton is a multicultural area, with 44.9% of residents born overseas. And the  biggest  foreign birthplaces wasThe Philippines (18.4%),  followed by Fiji (5.6%), Pakistan (2.6%) and India (2.5%).  1.7% of inhabitants were reported as being of indigenous origin.  The most common responses for religious affiliation in Plumpton were Catholicism (41%), Islam (11%), Anglicanism (10%) and Hinduism (6%), while 6% had no religion.

The place is a blue-collar  haven with occupations of the population were clerical and administrative workers (18%), professionals (15%), technicians and trades workers (14%), machinery operators and drivers (13%) and labourers (13%). And based on the last census, 6.1% of the labour force in Plumpton were unemployed, slightly higher than average, but  the average household income was slightly higher than the rest of the country.

With the new  property developments,  townhouses and duplexes have proliferated in recent years, but Plumpton has 87% of its dwelling considered as fully detached. It has its own little shopping centre called Marketplace.

Politically, The three-square kilometer Plumpton is part of Mount Druitt electorate in the state division, and Chifley in the federal division.

Greater Western Sydney Performing Arts Centre

The quiet suburb also boasts the Greater Western Sydney Performing Centre, which is fast becoming a popular venue for arts and music activities in the region. Built in  the Plumpton High School campus, the  $2.2 million cultural hub is  part of the Australian Government’s Local Schools Working Together pilot program, which encourages schools in the same community to share facilities and resources.

Also located in Plumpton is the Southern Cross Village which offers enhanced lifestyle for older persons in a relaxed community environment, which includes 52 self-contained units.
