Tarneit, Victoria

A fast developing suburb, Tarneit is located 25 km west of Melbourne's CBD. Its local government area is the City of Wyndham.

Agricultural grazing land still sprawling, Tarneit is fast turning into a vibrant young community, which attracts a lot of new migrants, including young Filipino families. It is becoming part of the hub for the fast growing African communities.

According to wikipedia, theTarneit area is now the site of several new housing estates, including 'The heartlands ','Habitat on Davis creek Estate' Seasons Estate, The Heartlands, The Reflections Estate, Moorookyle, Tarneit Gardens,Ecoville The Rise, Manhattan Place, Claremont Park, The Reserve, Rothwell Villages, Westbrook and Rose Grange. Mooted estates include Evadene, located within the Claremont Park estate.

Politically, Tarneit has its own electorate in the state division currently represented by Telmo Languiller.  In the federal division, it is part of Lalor, the seat once held by then Australia's first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, and now represented by Joanne Ryan.

Tarneit has a number of schools established within its boundaries, including Thomas Carr College, Baden Powell Prep - Year 9 College and Tarneit Central College. The Islamic College of Melbourne (ICOM), (http://www.icom.vic.edu.aulocated at Wootten Road has classes from Grade 1 to Grade 10 in this year.

There has been much residential growth occur in the Thomas Carr District, with other schools and shopping centres planned for construction. The newly-developed Tarneit Central Shopping Centre, (http://tarneitgardensshoppingcentre.com.au) on the south east corner of Derrimut and Leakes Roads, houses a wide mix of retail, fresh food, fast food and service based stores that serves even neighbouring suburbs.

Rail network

In 2015, a new railway line opened in the area as part of the Regional Rail Link, travelling  from West Werribee via  Tarneit to Deer Park. The regional area has a parking space for 1,000 vehicles.
