The vibrant and colourful Sinulog Festival, which stems from the annual Feast of Sto Niño in Cebu City, Philippines, has found its way to various parts of Australia. This grand celebration of faith and culture has become a significant event for Filipino Catholics across the country.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, "of all migrants who came to Australia between 2016 and 2021, almost 200 thousand (191,000) reported an affiliation with Catholicism in the 2021 Census, over one-quarter of which were born in the Philippines."

'Sinulog' is derived from the Cebuano word 'sulog,' meaning 'like water current movement'.

This name captures the essence of the festival, which involves a ritual prayer dance that symbolises the flow of grace and devotion.

The festival is celebrated every third Sunday of January, attracting millions of devotees and spectators in the Philippines.

Filipinos in Australia also come together to commemorate this tradition.
