One of western Sydney's youngest, Woodcroft became a suburb only in 1996. It used to be part of Doonside, and then in 1989, real estate agent and developer LJ. Hooker developed it as a community with single detached houses. Its main attraction is a man-made lake called "Woodcroft Lake". Until the development of the Hills district and northwest Sydney, the suburb became popular among "wealthy" Filipinos with the prestige it carries in the Blacktown area. Some of these Filipinos moved to the Hills District, but the leafy place dotted with large two-story houses remains popular among Filipinos.
Politically, it is part of Chifley in the federal division and Blacktown City state electorate
"The houses have characters", says Lucas Cayanan, a resident since 1996.
Portions of the close-knit community was re-zoned when middle density-housing was introduced in 2014.
This is how Lucas Cayanan explains it.
Woodcroft Lake Festival
Every year since 2005, the suburb of almost 3,000 residents have been holding a day-long feast, usually on the last Saturday of September. Cayanan is the main festival organiser. He says:
