Loneliness among men has been described as a "crisis" in Australia, and it appears to be on the rise. This social isolation can not only hurt men’s mental health and overall wellbeing, it is also costing the Australian economy billions of dollars.

Key Points
  • A new study of 2,000 Australian men found that one in two males aged between 35 and 50 felt stress or anxiety affected their everyday life.
  • Around 31 per cent of men said their mental load is affecting their job performance. Meanwhile, one in three regional or rural men felt isolated due to their remoteness.
  • Social programs, such as The Man Walk and Mentoring Men, help men deal with loneliness and mental health issues.
