According to a report by the Grattan Institute, some specialists in the private sector charge two to three times the Medicare rate for the same service.

A new report revealed that nearly two million Australians are delaying or entirely skipping appointments.
The main reason is the high cost of medical care.
In 2023, patients paid an average of $671 for specialists who charged excessive fees for certain services.
