'As a young boy, my mother would be frustrated with me as I would finish a ream of coupon bond paper (A4 Copy paper) intended for our (me and my siblings') schoolwork. I would draw and make paper planes and paper boats.' BoatPaperPlane artist Mar Jefferson Go on his life as a child in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. Credit: with permission BoatPaperPlane

Childhood memories spent in the coastal city of Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, have helped shape Mar Jefferson Go, also known as BoatPaperPlane, as an artist.

Key Points
  • A huge part of his childhood was spent in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu where he was surrounded by boats and would often hear planes flying from the nearby airport.
  • Initially he took up Engineering for his Bachelor Degree but after a semester he pursued his interest in the arts and completed a degree in Fine Arts.
  • From 2013 he has worked as a Graphic Designer and currently Art Director for a magazine.
  • His first exhibit, 'BoatPaperPlane' at the Off the Kerb Gallery features memories from childhood in Cebu.
For me, AI is just a tool. I don’t think it can completely replace the designers and art directors. I think there has also been a renewed interest in visual art because it’s a one-of-a-kind piece with a personal touch
