In the wake of yet another successful Gay Mardi Gras, Sydney might be forewarned there is a town aiming to take its title as the capital of Australia's LGBTI* community. Image: Machine operator Jack Woods dressed up for the Broome Mardi Gras (SBS)


The remote town of Broome, on the Kimberley coast of Western Australia, has an LGBTI population broadly accepted by its wider community.

 

In fact, the community is so widely accepted that, when the town hosts its own Mardi Gras, most of the people who attend are straight.
