Casual workers could have an easier pathway to permanent positions

The government has announced its will legislate changes to make it easier for nearly a million casual employees to become permanent.


KEY POINTS
  • The changes will close loopholes that allow employers to get casuals to work regular hours without giving them the job security and leave of a full-time role.
  • The proposed changes will affect around 850,000 casual workers who work regular hours, giving them greater financial security and leave entitlements.
  • The legislation will also reverse changes made by the previous government to the definition of a casual.
