Deborah Wall shares the voices of Indigenous Australians of Filipino descent

After she started working on her book eight years ago, Deborah Ruiz-Wall finally has launched 'Re-imagining Australia: Voices of Indigenous Australians of Filipino Descent' in Broome, Western Australia, Manila and Sydney.


Deborah Wall, PhD is a Filipino - Australian journalist and researcher who specialized in Aboriginal studies and oral history.

Her book feature stories narrated by descendants of the Filipino immigrants called Manila Men who came to Australia in the late 1800s. Their work primarily revolved around pearl farming in  Broome, Western Australia and Torres Straits in  Queensland, Australia.

Wall's book compiles and documents these descendants search for their Filipino roots.
