Faith leaders and culturally and linguistically diverse communities are at the centre of a new training program aiming to end violence against women and children.

Key Points
  • The federal government has announced it will provide $3 million in funding for the program which will aim to increase understanding of the indicators of violence and how to respond to disclosures of abuse.
  • The program is seen as essential for community and faith leaders, who are often the first point of contact for those experiencing abuse in multicultural communities.
  • On average in Australia, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner - while 2 in 5 women have experienced violence since the age of 15.
