A long journey of many roads: Chef Morris Catanghal saw his career taking him from working in fastfood restaurants, multimedia technology, photography, singing and eventually landing him in the career that was meant to be his life's work - being a chef. Credit: Chef Morris Catanghal

Specialising in Filipino-Italian fusion food, Chef Morris Catanghal uplifts the flavours of every dish with a lot of care, making sure that they don't lose the very 'soul' that makes them Filipino.

Key Points
  • Chef Morris Catanghal first learned how to cook when he was tasked with cooking at home for his younger brother and blind father while his sister and mother worked abroad.
  • He is an award-winning chef who found himself moving to Melbourne from Italy when the pandemic hit.
  • He will be holding an event alongside popular content creator Abi Marquez this March during the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, entitled 'Boodle Brunch'.
I'm careful about how I recreate dishes. My thinking is a dish can't lose its soul. It may have Italian flavours incorporated in it; but when you eat it, it's still Filipino.
