How voting differs in Australia and the Philippines

The elections have kicked off in Australia and the Philippines! In this episode, we’ll discuss the new online voting system for overseas Filipino voters – how to do it, when, and how it differs from the voting process in Australia.

In the 2025 elections, overseas Filipinos from 77 Philippine Embassies at Consulates can now cast their votes online through the new system launched by Commission on Elections.
Australia, uses a preferential voting system, where voters rank candidates in order of preference while in the Philippines, the candidate with the highest number of votes wins.
In the Philippines, national elections happen every six years for the president and vice president, and every three years for other officials, held on the second Monday of May. In Australia, federal elections are every three years, but the date varies and is set by the Prime Minister and Governor-General.

Eligible overseas Filipinos can vote online anytime between April 13 and May 12, 2025.

To join the internet voting, you must enroll between March 20 and May 7.
