Political Fallout: Tensions among Philippine leaders continue to rise

Political tensions are rising after the first formal impeachment complaint was filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., while Vice President Sara Duterte faces a series of graft and corruption cases before the Office of the Ombudsman.

A verified impeachment complaint has been formally filed against President Marcos, citing alleged abuse of power, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust, including claims over allowing the ICC detention of former President Rodrigo Duterte and questioned use of the national budget.
Two additional impeachment complaints were attempted by the group Bayan and former congressman Mike Defensor, but were not accepted by the House due to technical issues; Defensor said they will instead bring their complaint to the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte has been charged with graft and corruption, plunder, and other high crimes before the Ombudsman, linked to alleged misuse of confidential funds and other irregularities during her tenure as DepEd secretary and as mayor of Davao City.
