Filipino fishermen join a civilian-led supply mission to the disputed South China sea

Atin Ito's civilian mission has delivered food and fuel supplies to Filipino fishermen at Scarborough Shoal.


Key Points
  • The main convoy has abandoned plans of travelling closer to the Shoal as Chinese vessels in the area previously blocked Filipino fishermen from travelling closer.
  • The civillian mission was able to distribute supplies and assistance to Filipino fishermen located at the Philippines' exclusive economic zone boundary at the West Philippine Sea.
  • They were assisted by around 200 small Filipino fishing vessels.
In other news, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has mapped out steps, and procedures for implementation by local governments in preparation for the effects of the La Niña phenomenon.
