'NAIDOC Week's message is respect': Aunty Beryl

What does this year's NAIDOC Week's theme, Voice. Treaty. Truth. mean? For one proud Kamilaroi woman Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo, "It shouldn't be our fight. It should be that we just have to respect one another and make it happen."

"We [Aboriginals] have a voice. Treaty should have happened 40 years ago and it would be a little different today but it will continue to go and maybe one day, maybe not in my lifetime but in the next generation's lifetime it will happen for them," furthers Aunty Beryl.

Aunty Beryl, who is an educator, a businessperson, and a "bread and butter cook", give emphasis on the importance of education for all Aboriginals in particular for the younger generation.
