The Australian Federal Government will establish a 'leaving violence program', to assist people fleeing domestic and family violence. Those escaping violence can receive financial support, safety assessments, and referrals to support pathways.

Key Points
  • This year alone, 28 women in Australia have been killed in acts of gendered violence.
  • State and territory leaders have now agreed that response systems need to be improved to reduce the number of domestic violence casualties.
  • The government will invest $925 million over five years. It will be included in the budget in two weeks' time to permanently establish the Leaving Violence program.
