The Australian Labor Party, currently led by Anthony Albanese, has been around since the 1890s.


KEY POINTS
  • The Australian Labor Party is Australia's oldest political party, and its currently in power in Australia. It's also known as the A-L-P, the party emerged from Australia’s labour and union movement in the 19th century.
  • Some of their recent achievements include introducing universal healthcare in 1974, The Native Title Act of 1993, and setting up the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the NDIS, in 2013.
  • This election, Labor's policies include: cutting student debt, making childcare cheaper, improving Medicare, and investing in renewable energy.
