Severe 2025 flu season likely, prompting calls to get vaccinated

Queenslanders have been urged to overcome ‘vaccine fatigue’ and take up an offer of free vaccinations amid predictions of a severe flu season. Health Minister Tim Nicholls has announced free flu vaccinations are still available to anyone over the age of six months, after earlier saying he would halt the three-year campaign at the end of 2024.

Queenslanders are being encouraged to get vaccinated against the flu as the state government will continue to offer free vaccines amid predictions of a dangerous flu season.
Data shows there was a significant drop in the number of people taking advantage of the free flu vaccination. In 2024, around 32 per cent of the Queensland population received the shot.
Last year, more than 80,000 cases of flu were recorded in Queensland, worrying the government about pressure on the state's health system.
