The Philippine Times Australia marks 35 years of community service and storytelling

In Pinoys in Australia, we featured a retrospective of the community newspaper, The Philippine Times Australia, marking three and a half decades of service to the Filipino diaspora. Joining the program were the Publisher for Print, Alice Nicolas, and the Online Publisher, George Gregorio.

• A Historic Milestone: Established in 1990 by community trailblazer Marina “Rina” Garcia-Ruivivar, the newspaper recently celebrated its 35th anniversary at the Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne.
• Adaptation in the Digital Age: Publishers Alice Nicolas and George Gregorio detailed the publication's strategic evolution from a legacy print outlet to a modern digital platform with new blood Editor-in-Chief Jason Cordi at the helm.
• Championing Community Advocacy: In addition to reporting, the paper’s impact on migrant settlement and identity preservation has earned it honours, including 'Best Newspaper' from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas and a Victorian Multicultural Excellence Award in 2025.
