Trials of Latest Broadband Technology Show Promise

The builders of the National Broadband Network (NBN) say trials of the latest technology are showing early promise in hopes of delivering far faster broadband internet speeds. Experts say "Fibre to the distribution point" - or F-T-T-D-P - is potentially ten times faster than the federal government's current preferred option, "Fibre to the node" - but slower than yet another alternative.

It comes as Australia slides further down global rankings of internet speeds, to the 60th fastest.
