Bago pa man naging kardinal ang ngayo'y Pope Leo XIV ay may ilang beses na itong nakabisita sa Australia. Kaya naman lubos ang tuwa ng maraming Katolikong Australian nang ihayag na ito ang napiling Papa.

Inabangan ni Fr Michael Belonio, parish priest mula sa Catholic Community of North Harbour sa hilagang Sydney ang pag-anunsyo sa bagong napiling lider ng simbahang Katoliko.

Inalala ng pari mula sa Diocese ng Broken Bay ang mga naging pagbisita ni Pope Leo back sa kanilang simbahan nang ito'y Prior General pa lamang ng Order of St Augustine.

"Everyone was just happy in the church because most of us were aware that our new Pope had been in our parish a few times. He has celebrated Mass at that very same altar where I celebrated Mass this morning.

He has shared morning tea, meals with us in this vicinity many times. So it's just a blessing to know him personally."

The division in the Catholic Church would still linger and probably be a constant problem, but I hope that he can bring his own change to it. I am hopeful for Pope Leo XIV that he can bring about change and continue the legacy of Pope Francis.
