Noong kanyang kabataan si Jose Apollo Pacamalan ay naging labourer sa palengke, nagsasaka at nagngunguha ng kopra para makapag-aral hanggang napasok siya sa Australian open category scholarship program. Ngayon, ibinabalik niya sa mga magsasaka ang kanyang natutunan bilang Regional Executive Director ng Department of Agriculture.

• Taong 2004 nakapasok siya sa Australian open category scholarship program, at kumuha ng Master of Environmental Management and Sustainability sa Flinders University, Adelaide South Australia.
• Kabilang siya sa 2018 Alumni Award recipients ng Flinders University at ginawaran ng Distinguished Alumni Award dahil sa malaking ambag sa industriya ng pagsasaka ng palay sa Pilipinas matapos pangunahan ang Integrated Rice-Duck Farming System.
• Plano ng national government na gawing modelo ang proyektong Beyond Copra sa Misamis Oriental at magtayo ng Integrated Coconut Processing facility sa buong bansa. Sa Beyond Copra ang lahat ng bahagi ng niyog ay mapakinabangan.
