Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for COVID-19

As the World Health Organisation warns the pandemic is accelerating, the United States formally withdraws from funding it.

Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro has been downplaying the  severity of the pandemic for months.  Mr Bolsonaro says he is taking the controversial drug hydroxychloroquine to combat the virus.  He had previously said his history as an athlete would protect him from the virus. He says his fever has already subsided, and his infection is not a big deal.
