Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been promoting his government's climate change policy on the international stage as a sign of a new approach from Australia. But his plan to enshrine a 43 per cent by 2030 emissions reduction target could still face a test when parliament returns this month.

The Greens and incoming independents want even more ambition, while the Coalition is opposed to locking in the goal with legislation.  Climate policy has long been the source of political division in Australia.  And it's an impasse the Prime Minister has made clear he wants to be overcome.  But he's facing some hurdles, with calls for more negotiation on his proposed climate legislation.
