Australia's electricity system is in distress.... The regulator has put a price cap of 300-dollars per megawatt hour in place across large parts of the country because soaring wholesale electricity prices breached a threshold. That prompted some generators to revise their market availability.... It's led the regulator to warn of power supply reserve shortfalls. Supply is being squeezed by international factors, a cold snap, and coal-fired power stations being sent offline.

Eastern Australia is dealing with more power shortage problems and potential outages could strike in Tasmania and South Australia on Tuesday. But the country's energy minister is confident they can be prevented and warned Australia is in for a 'bumpy' winter.
