A Ryanair flight unexpectedly diverted to Minsk because of a bomb threat and upon landing, Belarusian authorities took journalist Roman Protasevich into custody. The Opposition and western officials have suggested the decision was a hijacking move by the government.

Lithuania’s Chief Adviser to the President Asta Skaisgiryte  says Belarusian security services are behind the incident, as it was a KGB military fighter jet and helicopter that forced the plane to land.  171 passengers were on board and among them, was a Belarusian activist and blogger, Roman Protesevich.   Belarusian authorities say the flight was diverted due to a possible bomb threat.  But critics of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, like the opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya,  aren't convinced.
