The composer Kaija Saariaho and conductor Susanna Mälkki have received praise on the New York Times annual 'Best of' listing. Kaija Saariaho was named best composer and Susanna Mälkki the best interpreter of Saariaho's music.
Three Finnish films are reperesented at the important American 'Sundance' film festival. These are 'Tytöt, tytöt, tytöt by Alli Haapasalo, 'Pahan hautoja' by Hanna Bergholm, 'The Mission' a documentary by tanja Andersson.
At this time there are a munber of Christmas concerts taking place, Timo went to one at the Uspenski Cathedral to hear a singing group called 'The light in the snow'. The Chistmas themed program covered several centuries, from the Middel Ages to modern works. The consert ended with the familiar 'Stille Nacht'
