The United Kingdom is recording its first death as a result of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.  It comes amidst increased hospital admissions, with Omicron now representing 44 per cent of the Coronavirus cases in London and 20 per cent in England. The U-K is ramping up its booster vaccination rollout with the aim to get the eligible population a third dose by the end of the year.  In the United States the state of New York is introducing a mask mandate for shops and other indoor spaces as a response to a surge in COVID-19 infections and hospitalisations.  The rules will remain in place until at least January the 15th and will require businesses to ensure patrons can provide proof of vaccination, or that all customers aged two-years and older wear a mask.
