The Defence Secretary and top diplomat of the United States have returned from a meeting with the Ukrainian president in Kyiv. It comes amid mounting pressure for the United Nations to prioritise the evacuation of besieged Mariupol, as the U-N chief heads to Russia for crucial negotiations.

Just hours after top U-S officials made a risky and secretive visit by train to Kyiv, Russia renewed its attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure by striking five railroad stations across the country.  Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who accompanied the Defence Secretary to Ukraine, says this war is one that Russia cannot win. The visit by US officials comes as the country pledges to reopen its embassy in Kyiv next week, with the gradual return of U-S diplomats to the country.
