It's being called a "two- track pandemic", with COVID-19 rates rising in some countries, while mortality dips in others. The World Health Organisation says while some countries might feel they've got the pandemic under control, the coronavirus isn't over for those with limited access to vaccines. Bridging this gap is, according to the W-H-O, the next key step in going back to normal.

Overall, the W-H-O says the number of new COVID-19 cases has declined for six weeks in a row, and related deaths have fallen for five straight weeks - labelled by the W-H-O as "encouraging signs".   However, "opening back up" is a concern - and not just for low income countries.   Countries with zero or very low COVID-19 transmission, such as Australia and New Zealand, will be at risk if populations aren't vaccinated to create herd immunity.
