Over 10 000 people celebrated Christmas on Coogee Beach, in Sydney... And they left a huge mess behind them. 16 tons of trash to be exact.

And that's not all, several of the revelers fainted on the beach from a mix of heat and booze. The Coogee Surf Live Saving Clun had to use four cylinders of oxygen and 15 masks to reanimate them. The club also had to start the shark alarms several times to get people out of the water, fearing for their safety.

The police arrested three people.

“I’m a local, and in all my time here I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Tony Waller to Channel 7. The revelers were a mix of Australians and tourists.

The City Council has since imposed a ban on alcohol at Coogee Beach, effective all summer. Alcohol consumption is also forbidden at Bondi beach.
