The prospector, who wants to remain anonymous, has been searching the region occasionally for several years. After finding a 250 g nugget with his metal detector, he went back the day after and found the huge 4 kg nugget buried in the ground.

"I had just unearthed a colossal gold nugget — a once in a lifetime find! I was in total disbelief as I didn't think nuggets of this size were still around," he sais in a statement made public by metal detector company Minelab.

The man brought back the nugget home and hid it in its oven overnight, before to transfer it to a bank vault. He plans to use the money of the sale to travel across Australia in a van.

The Golden Triangle area, in Victoria, had a gold rush in the 1850's. Now, Western Australia is more known for its gold mining, but it looks like the reserves of the Golden Triangle are not empty. Last year, a 3.5 kg nugget was also found there.
