Double demerit on Australian roads during the holidays

Be especially careful if you're driving during the holidays. If you commit a road or traffic offence, your demerit penalties will double in certain Australian states.

You can get double demerit points in New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia.

In NSW and ACT, it starts from today and goes on until January 2nd. In Western Australia, it also starts today, but goes on until January 8th.

The other states and territory observe the same measures as usual, but several of them have been talking about joining the double demerit bandwagon.

With more people on the roads because of the holidays, there are more accidents. The goal of the double demerit penalties is to remind people to be safe on the roads.
