An American mother had a bad surprise when she found out mold was growing inside her son's Sophie the Giraffe toy. Worried by its bad smell, she cut the toy in two, finding black mold all over its lining.

It's not the first time this problem is brought up. On Amazon, you can find several parents commenting about the black mold issue with Sophie the Giraffe.

A spokesman for Vulli, the company manufacturing the toy, said to the Daily Mail that it's important to clean Sophie regularly and to make sure no water goes inside it.

A Global Hit

Sophie the Giraffe was created in France in 1961 by company Delacoste and later bought by Vulli. It's a 17 cm latex toy for baby who are teething.

Over 50 millions giraffes have been sold all over the world.

If you do find mold on your child's Sophie the Giraffe or any other toy, it's recommended you get rid of it right away.
