Fans of The Intouchables, this is a great news! It was just announced that Omar Sy will star in a new French series on Netflix. Sy will play the famous gentleman thief Arsène Lupin.
Netflix and Sy announced it on Twitter on Thursday:
The Arsène Lupin character was created in 1905 by writer Maurice Leblanc. In addition to Leblanc's books, Lupin was also featured on stage, on the small and big screen, as well as in comics. Another French actor, Romain Duris played Lupin in a 2004 film.
40-year-old Sy is mainly known in France for his role in The Intouchables, for which he won the Best Actor César. He has also appeared in American films like X-Men : Days of Future Past et Jurassic World.
We don't know much about the new series yet, only that the producer is Isabelle Degeorges.
Netflix has produced a few French series so far: Marseille, Osmosis and The Returned, the two season of the latter being available on SBS On Demand.
