The men, Rashid Nori Boudjema and Rabid Djelloud, appeared in front of an Adelaide judge at the beginning of the week, pleading guilty to 49 charges linked to a bank scam they conducted in Australia in 2014 and 2016.
The Advertiser says that the man. aged 36 and 29, were mostly scamming the elderly. They would win their trust by telling them they forgot a $20 in the ATM, and then cloned their debit card while helping them check their balance.
They spent over $50 000 with the cloned debit cards.
According to their lawyers, the man decided to commit their crime in Australia because the banks would reimburse the victims.
Rashid Nori Boudjema, who is in jail since December, is an ex-professional soccer player who needed to pay off some gambling debts. Rabid Djelloud, who is in jail since February, said he committed the crime to pay for his mother's cancer treatment.
They received a 9 months and 4 days sentence and will be deported as soon as possible.
