Young woman with Down syndrome to present weather on French TV

Mélanie Ségard is a 21-year-old woman who has a dream: to present weather on French television. She also happens to have Down syndrome, but she won’t let that stop her - as her campaign to pursue this dream goes viral.

Mélanie Ségard wanted to show the world that despite being different, she can still accomplish great things. She started a Facebook campaign, #MélaniePeutlefaire (Mélanie can do it) so she could achieve her dream to present the weather on TV.

In two days, her Facebook page got over 100,000 likes (it’s currently over 200 000) and she was invited to present the weather on France 2 and BFMTV on 14 March at 8:35 PM.

Mélanie is backed by UNAPEI, the National Union of Charities for Parents with Disabled Children, which said that the support she received shows her and others with an intellectual handicap that the world is ready to embrace their difference.

"People with disabilities are invisible these days. The 100,000 likes are mostly about support, and it means a lot more than just a thumbs up,” the group said in a statement.
