Le Premier ministre de Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée, James Marape, a demandé à l'Australie de ne pas « abandonner » son pays. Son discours devant le Parlement australien à Canberra est historique. Il est le premier dirigeant du Pacifique à s'adresser aux sénateurs lors d’une séance conjointe des deux chambres.
