"Hopp Schwiiz" in Australien: Die Frutigers in Sydney träumen vom WM-Fussballwunder

"Tell them they're dreaming" ist ein bekanntes Zitat in Australien. Vielleicht trifft es auch auf Martin, Maria and Daniel Frutiger in Sydney zu: Sie unterstützen ein Team, das seit 1954 nie mehr ein Viertelfinale erreicht hat.

Daniel Frutiger kam in den frühen 1980er Jahren nach Australien, als seine Talente als Koch sehr gefragt waren. Doch seine frühesten Erinnerungen an Australien waren alles andere als (Alpen)rosig:

"When I came to Australia, I had to change as well. I had to accept other ways of being accepted. And, you know, in the early days, maybe they say, 'If you don't like it, you go home. If you don't like it, you go home.' And in Switzerland, you can't do that so much, because it's a very liberal country, it's a neutral country, and everyone expects that Switzerland is doing the best for everyone."

Die Frutigers, mit Ehefrau Maria und Sohn Martin, sind eng mit dem Schweizer Klub von New South Wales verbunden. Daniel ist der Präsident der letzten sieben Jahre. Er liebt die Abwechslung und findet nur gute Worte für seine Community:

"There are a lot of Swiss, about 8,000 Swiss, here in Sydney and around, and we organise a lot of ethnic functions. And we do some fun functions for younger people, for older people, and we have a few normal things which we do every year. Like, the 1st of August, we have our national day, which is very well received. There's about 1,500 people. We have a farmers breakfast, which the Swiss Club organises, and there's about 150 people every time. And we do something right without even cooking for it, so that's pretty good." (laughs ...)

Aber zurück zur Fussball-WM in Russland. Sie beginnt in Australien am 15. Juni (01 Uhr AEST, SBS ist live dabei) und endet einen Monat später mit dem mit Spannung erwarteten Finale (16. Juli, 01 Uhr AEST bei SBS).

Und planen die fussballverrückten Eidgenossen irgendwelche Anlässe in Sydney? Aber selbstverständlich!

Martin ist Webmaster des Schweizer Klubs und freut sich darauf, die WM-Spiele der Schweiz (und bestimmt auch ein paar andere Partien!) zusammen mit der Schweizer Community zu feiern:

"I really hope so. Yeah, I'm definitely going to put some events up, and, hopefully, the Swiss people in Sydney are interested in coming along and just having a good, fun time together, and maybe a couple of drinks as well. It will be fun."
