An elderly woman has died after being pecked at by her rooster while collecting eggs from the chicken coop.
The rooster reportedly punctured a varicose vein with its beak, causing it to bleed profusely, The Advertiser reported.
Adelaide University forensic expert Professor Roger Byard examined the case, and said that even a small injury can be fatal with varicose veins.
"This case made us realise how vulnerable the elderly are, varicose veins are very easy to damage. Older people are also not as good at defending themselves against animal attacks, their balance might not be as good," he said.
