Golden Era Athens

Join archaeologist Judy Roberts as she explores the wondrous history of Athens from the 5th century BCE, through the Persian Wars to the Athenian empire. Under the guidance of Pericles, Athens had a cultural flowering of architecture, art, philosophy, science and drama. Great men such as Thucydides and Herodotus, Aeschylus, Hippocrates, Sophocles and Phidias lived and worked in Athens during this period.

Modern Athens

Vrasidas Karalis, professor of Modern Greek at the University of Sydney, will explore modern Athens in its attempt to come to terms with its glorious past and its self-perception as a European city. He will address the question of what visitors today expect to find in Athens and what they can actually see and experience when they are in the city.

Is Athens a city of an imaginary past or the place of multiple new identities? More about this questions in this interview that Professor Karalis gave to Themi Kallos.
