Commemoration events are taking place across the world today on the occasion of the completion of 75 years since the Auschwitz liberation by the Soviet Red Army.

In fact, Auschwitz consisted of two camps, Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II, or Birkenau.

More than 1,1 million people, mostly Jews, were murdered by the Nazis there.

The site is considered an emblem of martyrdom during the Holocaust.

Several events have been scheduled for today by the UN to observe the 2020 International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust under the theme “75 years after Auschwitz — Holocaust Education and Remembrance for Global Justice”.

On the occasion of this day of historical reembrance, Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres stressed in a tweet that "efforts to diminish the Holocaust & deny or downplay the responsibility of its perpetrators" are still witnessed.
