Following the inevitable cancellation of Brisbane’s big Greek celebration for the first time in 44 years, due to the COVID-19 situation, Paniyiri Greek Festival organisers made a decision that is sure to please thousands of its regular visitors, Greeks and non-Greeks alike.
In fact, this year, crowds will be able to enjoy the event as it happens, from the comfort of their home, anywhere in Australia and around the world.
The celebration will be livestreamed on their Facebook page this Sunday, with the most popular offerings of the normally two-day long event fitted into two hours packed with Greek cuisine, music, fun activities and plenty of dancing.
Virtual attendees will even be able to join a tour of the stunning Greek Orthodox Church of St George.
Expect Greek cooking demonstrations, live Bouzouki sessions, learn to dance the Zorba act and a special feature on traditional Greek costumes.
Meanwhile, for all food lovers, Nostimo Restaurant at the Greek Club is preparing throughout the weekend a special takeaway menu of Greek delicacies, including the popular loukoumades.
Stay tuned on the Paniyiri Greek Festival’s Facebook page for the unique Greek event, which runs from 2 pm till 4 pm this Sunday, 24 May.
