The off-duty ranger who poked crocodile's eye to free himself suffered hand and leg injuries when attacked while fly fishing at Cape York Peninsula.
The 54-year-old made it back to his vehicle and drove himself about an hour home to seek medical help.
The Queensland Department of Environment and Science said a helicopter spotted the 2.8-metre crocodile on Tuesday night in the ocean near the attack site, and that it had been humanely euthanised.
